Adding Dolby Atmos & Bi-amp wiring.

Hello people.

With a New TV on route im looking at options of adding to my home cinema experience by adding some Atmos speakers, toyed with the idea few years back and never really took it very far.

If im honest im a little confused as ive seen a few different ways of adding the atmos speakers.

Current setup is a Denon AVRX2200W and Tannoy 5.0 speaker setup (No sub) consisting of
Two Front Floorstanders (Find these generate enough bass for the room) currently.
Centre speaker & two bookshelf's rear.

Adding the Atmos speakers is an issue as i have no spare wiring connections left on the back of my amp the Floorstanders are Bi-amped, doing abit of reading people say single wiring to bi-amping makes little or no difference? I bought the floorstanders 10-12 years ago and was told in the store to bi-amp prob because they wanted a huge chunk of my money for the cabling :/

Assuming single wiring will be suffice i'd like to add the atmos speakers to my setup, ive seen two different types or ways people add the atmos centrally in the ceiling which i image is optimal but i also seen people have two additional atmos speakers sat directly on top of the floor standers?

I recently did a top to bottom rebuild of my spare bedroom to a nursery so had the floor up but missed the opportunity to wire them in discretely, shes really not gonna let me savage the flooring i know that ha!.

So on top of the floorstanders would be convenient.

Hopefully somebody can provide some help please :)

Thanks for reading.

You can have upfiring speakers like those klipsch either built in or bought seperatly. Or downfiring angled speakers like Dali Alteco. Or in ceiling speakers.

You need to get a sub, your taxing your AVR more, and missing out of a lot of sound, plus your system will sound worse without it.

I'm not sure if that Denon has Atmos outputs, it should say in the spec sheet. Otherwise you might need to upgrade your amp. I can't see any "height" speaker outputs on your amp.

It has Atmos, two of the speaker outputs are assignable (bi-amp, zone 2 or height)

Noted i will prob invest in a sub also along with a pair of atmos speakers.

Ive also been suggested that i could front mount the atmos speakers above the TV slight to the sides angled at our seating area, if i buy the right angled speaker would add the same effect?

Thinking of wall mounting watching a few videos people say wall mounting there and direct firing the sound at the seating position would give the best you can get other than ceiling speakers.

I'd prefer white was there are a little more discreet but may have to be the Eltax Monitor ATM

but possible maybe stretch to the Jamo S8 and look for a budget sub as previously mentioned above.

Any recommendation for a budget sub just bare in mind im going from having never had a sub in my setup.

Dedicated angled Atmos speakers start off around £120

You don't have to use special Atmos speakers in the location you highlighted, any bookshelf speskrr will be ok. I'm using w acoustic 3010i as they're cheaper than Atmos speakers.

As for subwoofer that room doesn't look small and it opens up, have a look at the monoprice monolith 10" sub it's sometimes on special for about £380 or something like that.

You don't want weedy sub.

Had a google looks an outstanding sub can find it at £380 tho £500 everywhere sadly, also im a little unsure on the space as i only have around 12" (30cm) between speaker and tv stand only suitable place right now with our new babys in the house. 500w and THX certified great spec tho would my amp have to be THX certified? as my denon 2200w is not.

a compact sub could be more suitable , the room is quiet big and open plan.

No you don't need THX amp, that compoent means it meets the THX spec (there's select, Ultra) Basically means it can output sound at a certain dB at certain THD in a specific room size.

That sub is incredible but just not so sure i could stretch to the £500 mark , My LG OLED 77" C1 arrives 2mrw and im £2500 grand light right now ha, its amazing tho onothing i can find seems close to that but was hoping for a sub and 2xatmos speakers for the 400-500 mark max.

I've not even consdiered a sub until your insight and believe you have go a valid point and now im sub hunting.

Considering my scouring ebay and see if i can nab a good deal on a Sub there as they currently have some extra %% offer on used items right now Dali E-12F Subwoofer or the Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 seems to be go too options doing some digging and can see them on ebay around the £250 up to £300 in excellent condition.

Any advice on either of these?

Dali alteco are good height speakers but not cheap. Unfortunately atmo speakers are expensive.

Kef have two the q and r £450-£800. I wouldn't spend that much on FX speakers.

Two pair cost less than £450 ones I have 3010i

I wouldn't get those two I'd save up. You're probably looking at least BK monolith in open large room .ideally you want two subs to flatten response

Definitely going for Jamo S8 atmos speakers reviews seem fair and price is too at £200, So now its just the subwoofer im after picking up now it wasn't in the budget but dont want to regret not getting the right one even if that means waiting a little longer

With single 4" they're going to have fairly limited frequency response, on low and high end

ELAC A4.2 Debut at same price could be a better option?

ive just been googling atmos speakers but seen a lot of people using these but not tagged in as atmos speakers Wharfedale D300 3D also at £120-150 seem pretty good spec.

P.S Thanks so much for all your insight so far its been amazing help and very much appreciated
