Hey guys,

Ive got an onkyo 607 AV receiver and Q-acoustics 1010i 5.1 system. Now im looking into moving to a bigger place and I was wondering if I would see any benefits from adding some 2050i's in the front and going 7.1 or would the floor standers be detrimental. I use my system for movies, gaming, music and TV, basically everything? Im very happy with the set up as it stands in terms of quality.

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

Improvement definitely, am about to do a similar thing myself, although I wont be adding floorstanders, just a pair of B&W speakers that are more capable than the 1010i satelites

The 2050i's would be a good upgrade. Unless you are willing to change your centre speaker aswell then you are limited to what floorstanders you should use as you need to be careful with matching the centre and fronts. Generally it's better to have the same brand and model. I know you will be ok matching the 1000 with the newer 2000 series because I've done it with my system.

There are other options which might actually give you more bang for your buck is to upgrade your subwoofer instead. The sub on the Q-acoustics 1010i 5.1 system is well known for being poor, don't under estimate how important a quality sub is compared to a cheapo boom box.

BK XLS200 This will cost you about the same as the 2050's and believe me it's a quality bit of kit :) These are direct from the factory, cutting out the middleman. In the shops a similar quality sub will cost you over £500.

OR Upgrade both your fronts and subwoofer.

BK Gemini The baby brother of the above but over £100 less.

Q Acoustics 1030i's These will match your 1000 series perfectly.

You could buy both of the above for about the same price of the 2050i's and would offer better overall performance imho ;)

Ok guys, thanks for the input, I dont really fancy a new sub as im happy with the one ive got, im not a massive audiophile. When I move ill look into either the 2050s or some decent second hand 1030i - these might save me a good few pennies.

Thanks again.

Just to give you an idea of how much of a bargain the above subwoofer is. They make these for other companies who simply stick their badge on and sell for a massive mark up.

Here is the BK XLS200 but with the MJ Acoustics name: = £850

To make it even more remarkable the one selling for £850 is the old Mk1 that only has the 200w amp. The newer MkII from BK has a more powerful 275w amp and an upgraded driver! ;)
