all coments welcome.

Just get matching Geil

As for going to 8GB I assume you have a 64bit OS to take advantage of it?

but overclockers dont sell the same geil memory any more...any other sugestions, is mixing and matching likely to be a problem..?

and yes runing vista 64.

If you do a quick google for 'Black Dragon Geil memory' you can still get hold of it. It's always advisible to match the same memory if you can - if not get the closest match possible.

But, if you're prepared to use a different e-tailer, you can get the exact same memory - and remove any compatibilty issues/doubt. (i'm sure OCuk will forgive you ;))

I was thinking about moving from 2 x 2 gig sticks to 4 x 2 gig sticks.

Does the extra 4 gigs make a noticible difference or does the fact that you loose duel channel mode mean you loose out?

I recently upgraded my media centre pc, and to get it up and running, I removed 4gb from my 8gb pc and gave that 4gb (so both are now on 4gb)

Apart from when running Virtual machines, I can't say I've noticed the difference

i went from 4gb geil ram to 8gb corsair and i must say the extra does make a difference.

with the price of ram nowadays it is silly not to get 8gb of ram.

im glad i did.

you wont loose dual channel mode.
and thank you for all the comments so far, having looked for geil black dragon 6400 memory it comes in a £42 a pop for sticks that might or might not be the same, not really a chance im willing to take especially as id have to be dealing with a store i have had no dealings with in the past.

much prefer to stick with overclockers, so is there anyone out there running different sets of memory.

i was looking at something like this

Corsair XMS2 4GB

The google i did brought up a major reputable online store about 6 lines down and the memory cost £36 plus p&p which brings it to £41.38. I'm guessing you may have rounded up your figure so you may have found the same store (********?) - if it is, i've used them many times and never had a problem. (I prefer OC's but they don't always carry the stock i need.)

The memory there is the same as that which is in your system now - it's just not of the same batch.

If you still want to stick with OC's then you'll need to pick a brand and try and match the timings and voltages as close as you can.
