Hi,

I am adding an SSD to my system, so while im formatting i planned on installing windows 64bit so i can add some more ram.

I currently have 2x2gb Corsair XMS3 and wanted to add andother set of the same to make it 8gb.

I tried adding some before but my pc would not boot, i was told this is because i was running windows 7 32bit instead of 64bit. The motherboard was up to date etc and i altered some ram voltages as suggested previously but it wouldnt have it.

I am using a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H Motherboard currently with the above ram installed and an Intel i3 540 clarkdale.

So my question is, Do you think it's worth adding 4gb like i tried before or just buy 8gb (2x4gb) to save any hassle?

The difference is only £10 or something, i could even buy cheaper ram as i don't intend to overclock.

theres no point if your running windows 32bit,it can only use 3.5gb of ram no matter how much you add in

to make use of more ram 3.5gb and above you need a 64bit version of windows

4gb will be enough anyway? i have the same cpu but in an asus h55 board, mine never struggles for memory

I was told it would benefit me having 8gb for games like wow, swtor and bf3. I havnt had many in game issues except while loading etc but thats why im getting the SSD to improve loading times for windows and games.

i guess i could just get the SSD and add more ram later if i feel like i need it.

yeah id try that first, and you need 64bit windows to make use of more ram,but tbh you wont need it

with 8gb you would need to raise the qpi/vtt voltage maybe around 1.25v to get 8gb stable
