hey i replaced the 6gb triple channel ddr3 ram i had in my rig (it was cheep samsung Ram) and put in 12GB of Kingston hyper x triple channel ddr3,
but it seems to be taking longer to open programs ect than it did before?
anything i need to configure?

running
windows 7 64 bit
i7 860
2x 6950s in crossfire

What does CPU-Z show the memory speed and timings as, you might need to pop into the BIOS and adjust the memory settings.

Also The i7 860 is dual channel CPU, buy runnig with 3 sticks you might be running single channle mode, same as before but with a larger memory capacity this might be giving you the performance issue.

Another member may be able to confirm, or have another thought. :)

Edit: was your system overclocked at all?

Always better using memory in pairs.

CPU is designed for dual channel, running 3 sticks would likely force the system to run in single channel &
your memory bandwidth will drop significantly.

Hey cheers for the replys,
timings are:

DRAM 665mhz x2
9x9x9x24

i do have enough slots to run pairs the only thing that is concerning me for the time being is that the last ram set i used was triple channel aswell and seemed to work better :S it was Also value ram. im thinking there has to be something to configure i haven't done properly or something

specific RAM

there you go bud, as always appreciate any help given

edit: apologies for being a little zoomed out, but you can still see all the data im sure,
cheers

Pop into the BIOS and you will need to manually setup the speed, CPU-Z should then show the speed as 800mhz.

1 stick single mode
2 sticks dual mode
3 flex mode

I played around with 2 and 3 sticks before (damn mobo would never run 4 sticks :( , better to run just 2 , flex mode slows things down a bit
