So here's where I'm at;

I have an SBS 2003 located in a DataCentre, have run adprep /domainprep & adprep /forestprep from a Windows Server 2008 CD.

I've successfully joined the Windows Server 2008 machine to the Domain but when I try to dcpromo I get an error saying I need to run the first two commands on the Domain Controller.

FWIW there are 3 other Windows Server 2003 machines located at other offices which I haven't run the adprep /domainprep /forestprep on. Do I need to do this?

TIA

Yes ran the adprep commands without issue. The SBS2k3 machine is set as the primary dns in the 2k8 boxes nic settings.
Scratching my head on this one.

You can have another DC but the FSMO roles have to stay on the SBS box.

I missed your first question, you only need to update your schema once for each forest / domain you have. Since SBS doesn't allow trusts I assume your network is running from one domain.

As far as I know, SBS really doesn't like anything else intefering with it. Extra Exchange servers, or DCs. I've only tested an extra exchange server and the SBS box threw a fit, I don't want to know what it would do with another DC there on the same domain.

I've had extra DCs with SBS 2003 and 2008 without any trouble except the inital forestprep to make schema changes. Forget what I was doing wrong but once that was overcome adding DCs was no different from a non-SBS network.

You can only have one DHCP server on your SBS network though. Not tried extra exchange servers.
