Hi, I've seen an Audi A4 Estate 09 shape (58 plate) that I really want

Problem is it doesnt have Sat NAV, cruise control or MMI

So questions...

Can I add cruise control? easily? Cheaply?
Can I add MMI to a car without? How much?
Can I then use the MMI to add sat nav via 3rd party?
The car has auxillilary input, what additional benefits does MMI give me?

I dont really want to stick my iPhone/other GPS to the window

Seems a lot of hassel, i'm no expert but i'd be surprised if thats simple or cheap

If you want the Nav etc your best bet IMO is to wait until a car comes along with the options you want

In a nutshell, MMI is a fully integrated (via CAN BUS and MOST BUS) infotainment system, that has command over the car's physical features, entertainment features, communication features and (depending on options) voice features/telematics/rSAP capable bluetooth phone.

Without it, you are missing proper integration of your audio sources (be they bluetooth, iPhone/iPod/iPad, or USB) via the AMI (Audi Music Interface) box that sits on the MOST bus between your CD changer and the MMI itself. You're missing the advanced on-board computer features (battery level, oil level, wiper control, door lock settings, window settings, light settings, etc), you're missing the ability to have voice control, reversing cameras (or just graphical display reversing sensors), DVD/TV, and full control over the climatronic system in the car.

You can read up on it more here: http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/articles/a4a5realmmi.html

Retrofitting it is all but impossible, it's incredibly involved and would require dismantling most of the interior to fit the various looms, control modules and input sources (all assuming the dash is the same, which I'm not 100% sure it is).

If you want MMI, find a car with MMI (which I'd highly recommend).

The car I am looking at has door lock settings, window settings, light settings, reverse sensors with the on-screen color display

I didnt notice if it had battery or oil?

In the glove box there was no little box which I understand to be the MMI which I saw on other cars when I was looking

So im confused why it had some of the features you were talking about but not all?

Sorry I was getting confused with A4 revisions. Being a B8, "concert" radio is 6.5" colour display IIRC, which has some cut-down features (although nowhere near as many, nowhere near as expandable, no MOST BUS, etc) of a "proper" MMI system, but the controls are on the dash rather than on the transmission tunnel/below the gear lever. It's also worth noting that these systems are slower than MMI also (noticable lag IMO too).

To "retrofit" nav would involve replacing most of the infotainment system, it's looms and it's controls!

"It is possible but the parts list is endless, your converting the cars infotainment from CAN (Wires) to fibre-optic, so your looking a can gateway, nav, mmi control head, MMI controls, screen, Bluetooth, CD-Changer/AMI wiring harness fibre optic cables, etc etc etc... Just not worth (Not unless you can get everything very cheep from a scrapped car)."

I've not got MMI on my audi a4 cab (06). It has the dvd nav, and full colour screen but it has the sd card slots which according to that link the full MMI doesnt have.

I do have the kufatec system which allows bluetooth music streaming, but no graphical display for my parking sensors

This is because your A4 Cab is a completely different car, it is the older shape A4 from 2000 and not the current shape model. This is why it doesn't have MMI.

MMI doesnt have SD card slots because it doesn't need them - it has USB and a hard drive instead.
