I was running 3 monitors, a Dell 2007 and 2407 off of a 8800GTS and another 2007 off of a Radeon x1300.

I now swapped the 8800 for a Radeon 5770 and Win 7 has disabled the x1300 and I haven't been able to find any way to enable it. I assume the latest Catalyst jobbies don not support the older cards??

Whats the cheapeast option, compatible with the 5770, to get the third monitor back online?

Unless the monitors you mentioned have a DP connection, then yes you'll need the active DP to DVI connector.

I'm sure you may have seen it before but the "how to link" is below

Pre order from OcUK at the mo, but it's hard to get hold of in the UK.

Nope hadn't seen that, thanks. Explains it quite well, but leaves one question un-answered, would it work (for desktop use) with different res monitors. The monitors running at their native resolutions.

You dont need the active adaptor for purely running three monitors at desktop, a cheap second gfx card would do the trick. However, if u want to try Eyefinity with ur shiny new 5770 u will need an active adaptor as one must be connected via DisplayPort - if doing this ur resolution must be the same on all three monitors so i assume all would have to run at 1680x1050 in ur setup.

+1
same resolution/size monitors for 3 screen gaming or 3 monitors running same resolution for desktop (mixed size ie 2 x 22 1 x 23/24 etc)

Apparently u don't need an active Display Port converter if your single screen resolution is below 1920x1200, (5760x1200) ive not tried it personally but

Here is a thread for a VGA >> http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=17468

And the DVI >> http://www.monoprice.com/products/p..._id=1042801&p_id=5135&seq=1&format=4#feedback (read the feedback)

As stated by creed yesterday though in my thread I started... it would be silly buying it for £20 if it didn't work, at least with the more expensive Sapphire one you know its going to work for sure.. or just make sure you can return it if it didn't work ;-)

And no im not spamming products, just having a discussion hehe

Ill be setting up my 3 screens on Eyefinity in a few weeks.. so im reading up as much as possible first to see if Eyefinity is indeed the best way to go.

You could get the £20 and return it if it doesn't work for a full refund, thanks to the distance buying regulations.

i'm not sure but i think windows 7 is happy to run two sets of drivers, perhaps start another thread with a title appropriate to that issue to confirm or email ATI.

I've heard that, too, so it should be possible to get that x1300 working again.

Perhaps something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?&groupid=701&catid=56&subid=1274&sortby=priceAsc

It seems the latest Catalyst drivers only support back to the HD 2400 series (http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/Catalyst_912_release_notes.pdf). you can still download drivers for the X1300 from AMD's site and i'm not sure but i think windows 7 is happy to run two sets of drivers, perhaps start another thread with a title appropriate to that issue to confirm or email ATI.

Yepp a bit of digging showed that the latest catalyst drivers dropped support for older cards. I'll try a seperate driver for the x1300 as you suggest and see what happens.

I only really want the 3 monitors for desktop use so eyefinity isn't really the way to go I guess.

Well you only need a cheap HD3***+ card then.
No adapter necessary.

Well unless you can get seperate drivers running, so you can use your X1300.
I've had Nvidia and ATI drivers on at once, not sure how 2xATi drivers would react.

Aye the Nvidia/ATI combo I initially had running was fine, but no go on getting the X1300 to run with the 5770. Oh well, was worth a punt :)
