I was going to build a couple more Quads in November, but chnaged the plan and went for a beefy Game / FAH box instead. It's up and running on WinDoze at the moment, but will have VMware / Linux and 4x SMP clients installed by tomorrow.

MB - ASUS P5N32-E SLI
CPU - Intel Q6600 Clocked to 2.95Ghz
Cooler - Big Typhoon
RAM - 4GB XMS2
GPU - 2x BFG 8800's 765MB OC'd in SLI
KB - Logitech G15
MS - Razor Copperhead
Sound - X-FI Xtreme Gamer
PSU - Antec 1000W
Drives - 2x 73GB Raptors in RAID-1 and a (1TB) Storage Drive
Case - Antec 900 Gamer

It should add another 1500+ PPD to my daily total :p

Nice :)
Is the clock on the Quad limited by having 4 sticks of RAM?

Had allot of problems putting 4GB's of RAM and the 8800's on the P5N32-E Board, so I've swaped the 4GB over to my P5K deluxe board which is water coolerd and has my 6800 in it. May end up swapping the Quad over to that board as well.

So how many machines is that now?

I bet a 3D model of your street's power draw takes on a very distinct cone shape centered on your computer room... :D

6 in All ...

1x E6800 EX
3x Q6600's
2x E6600's

I stopped using my Laptops, just wasn't worth it.

Power consumption isn't too bad. Haven't noticed a relavant power bill increase, as I'm rarely home to use other items in the house .. :) It's like running 6 150W lightbulbs (maybe a bit more ;) ) .. lol ..

Portable heaters and hair dryers take up more power than these things do :D

I'm sorry I'll have to do this is sterling. Plus I'm under the impression energy is a lot cheaper in the US so this probably means little to you.

150w * 6 = 900w

900w running for 1 hour is 0.9Kwh

24 hours in a day * 0.9Kwh = 21.6Kwh consumed per day.

30 days in the average month * 21.6kwh = 648Kwh per month.

This is where things get a bit tricky depending on the price you pay per kilowatt hour. It also varies during the day and night time hours. But lets say, for example, the price is 9p per kwh.

648kwh * 9 = £58.32 per month

Now for some this will be a drop in the ocean. Others might not realise how much it adds up over a year. For me, that would probably pay my mobile phone bill and fuel my car for a couple of weeks. :)

edit - I'm sure someone will take great joy in pointing out any ghastly errors. :D

An Oc'ed quad will use more that 150w per hour - more like 300w
See figs below for full systems running F@H from at stock from here

QX6700 - 233w
Q6600 - 187w (GO stepping - taken from newer report)
X6800 - 175w
E6700 - 156w
E6400 - 144w
E6300 - 153w

So i'd say (175+100)+[3x(187+120)]+[2x(150+75)] = 1.645Kw per Hour
=1185.12Kwh per month
106ish per month (minus £20 of the gas heating bill :D )

Edit: About £60 a month at stock or ~£10 a pc

My Mobile is insanely expensive (International GSM - I knew I should have bought stock in Tel-Co's , somewhere on average or 500 GBP per month.

Car, well, that's not a good thing either, I get about 15 MPG if Im taking it easy, 8 if Im stopmping on it, that's about 40 GBP per week as It will only run on 103 octane fuels.

Friday night out hitting the pubs, I can easily dropp 100-150 per week.

All in all, life is expensive., as is folding :D both in HW and operations costs, but it's something I enjoy doing. It's not just the power consumption I take into consideration. If Im building machines and staying home, I'm not going out, not burning cash through entertainment and fuel, so it ballances out all all in all. Trading one vice for another .. LOL.

I dont know what the KW/hr price is here, I will have to check. but I think you all are spot on with the UK costs, I'd say about 300 GBP per Quarter, 1000 GBP per year. If I added up my entertainment bills, I'd be sick at the thought of how much I spend in that bucket.. LMAO.

One that it was worth moving from the UK to the states for. :p

One that I will "Hopefully", god willingly and the sun rises, retire from in the next year or so :D

There are other Bennie's to it, Sun 10 months of the year, LA and the Beach, Santa Cruz and the Suffers, not to mention three Uni's !! ...

Ohh and I almost forgot, our Favorite University is right down the road, Stanford !!! .. So when they **** me off to bad, I'll drive over there had ahve a chat with the boys ... LMAO.

Slapped wrists for use of naughty words for going to the toilet there! :p

Don't think much of LA myself - huge sprawling mass of 'stuff'. Think I went through San Jose on the way somewhere else a few years back, and I'm likely to end up in San Diego sometime in June. Still prefer San Fran though. :)

My leccy bill was £85-odd last year but dropped to £70. Probably £20-£30 of that is non-cruncher use. However, it seems I'm still 'average' overall for energy consumption. I probably saved 20% when I turned off the dual xeon, but I'll have lost that saving thanks to the new Quad, and got some of it back due to retiring a P4 (or rather it retiring itself). I expect to be back up to £85-£90 come April. :(

I was waiting for them until the P4 packed up and I had to do a quick about-face - especially as it was for a media box and I wanted the SSE4 benefits.

I have a second P4 rebuild coming up and unless that one packs up (touch wood it doesn't) I'll be waiting. Besides, I need to pay off the cards first.
