Adding water to pre mix

Hi all, I bought some Mayhems pre mix X1 fluid, I assumed this was exactly as it said on the tin, pre mixed and ready to go,

trouble is I believe its too thick as in my x20 750 radiator I can barely see the fluid levels even with the blue led behind it, with just water its as bright as you like and fluid levels can be seen easily, am I just being dumb, would a red led help or maybe a white one ?

Also this stuff is meant to be UV although I am quite disappointment with it, I bought 2 UV lights and this stuff barely glows if at all tbh

would adding some water to the mix to make it thinner be ok or should I just buy a different fluid all together ?

Thanks guys!

This sounds like a lighting issue more than a coolant issue.

Smaller wavelength UV will have a brighter effect on fluid. Different uv lights have different vapours in them to acheive their light and so different wavelengths of light are produced depending on which lights you get. UV lights for decoration usually come with peaks in 350nm and 370nm wavelengths or a mixture of both, the 350nm lights tend to look dimmer on their own, away from flourescents but i can assure you that the intensity of the light and the energy of the light itself are two different things, dont think your light isnt showing much uv simply because its not bright or the liquid is not reactive enough.

I would avoid 'thinning' your coolant if you dont need to top up. Putting the UV lights closer will make the liquid brighter, have you tried this?

What colour is the UV liquid?

LEDs have a shorter range of light compare to other forms of lighting and if your LED lighting does not overlap with the colour of the fluid, all you are doing is reducing the contrast of the liquid making it harder to see.

Pictures makes things easier to explain.

Well a blue light behind UV Red fluid wont help the visibility much if at all. Though red seems like it makes sense as the obvious choice, actually a white LED would be better.

Can you take a picture of the light and the tubing next to it? (also if you can take a picture of the x1 bottle where it lists the ingredients, as this will tell us what is used for the florescent and so makes it easy to rule out the UV light as the problem)

What light is it?

This may be Mayhems X1 - Concentrate 250ml-Makes 2 Ltrs when mixed with DI or Ultra Pure water (125 ml per 1 Ltr)

Read the instructions.

What lights are they? I made the stupid mistake of buying "uv" lights off an auction site. They looked uv but were definatly not.

Only reason I question the lights is due to having had no issues with mayhems before.

Yup though many lights sold are technically UV or can look like UV lights, the peaks are not high energy enough to activate the fluorescents in in some coolants and paints.

I've got X1 UV red in my system and tried UV LEDs - they were crap!

I ended up putting red LEDs in the dual bay res and it looks much better.

If you want UV lights you're probably better off getting some UV cathode tubes - that's what I plan to do.

I think I'll pick up a white or red led,

As for getting uv cathodes that's what I did buy but would appear they aren't good enough.
