adding wifi to the shed?

Hi,

I have cable internet and at the moment I have cable modem to N wifi router.

media centre, main computer connected to router via cat5
Printer, laptop, iphones via wireless

my question is this, I have a shed 30m away from my house and I have a computer in there. I have bought a 40m length of cat 5 cable which I will try and connect up my computer at the shed to the router. However, I think it would be a better idea to have wifi at the shed, then all our iphone can be used in the shed as well as the computer.

What do I need to achieve this? I am upgrading to 30mb access in coming week and I will have the N wifi router available, do I use the superhub from cable company in the main house and connect the N router at the shed and use that as access point?

Just use the superhub to start with and if the signal is weak in the shed use a repeater / directional antenna.

If you set the n router up in the shed, plug the cat5 into one of the LAN ports, turn off DHCP and set the WiFi SSID, password and encryption method to be the same as your Superhub (probably WPA2). Channel wise pick one thats at least three away from whatever channel you are using on the Superhub to avoid interference. You can probably get an app for your iphone that'll show you which channels are in use by your neighbours.

Since you've got a cat5 cable running there already and will have the n router spare this is your best option.

This, but with a router instead of an access point in the shed.
The cost of an access point vs a similar model with routing is pretty small, and it allows both wired and wireless access in the shed.

On the router disable DHCP and plug the CAT5 into a LAN port (leave the WAN port free) and setup the wireless. The router will then act like a switch / hub and an access point.
 
lol, I call it a shed but it is a purpose build summer house with a full size snooker table, I wish my wife would throw me out of the house more often.

I will carry out the above advice next week, I have no cable at the moment as I cancelled old contract and starting new which installation date is next week Tuesday. I am using my 3g doung at the moment.

Seems like a huge waste of money

I'd run a cat5e cable down there and then use a second hand wireless cable router in the 'shed'
 
directional antenna to the shed sounds like much more fun :-)

But seriously ethernet down to the shed and old router is probably much easier + reliable.

I want my shed with a snooker table + internet....

Following the above advice, I put a full sized snooker table in my shed.
But now I can't fit the router in too.

Is there some other way around this??:confused:

Just thought I'd better point out - it's just my sense of humour - this wasn't intended in any other way than a bit of silliness :)
