Adding XBOX to LAN does what?

I got an XBOX

Not doen anything with it yet, except let the kids play on it.

It does however, have a LAN port, that obviously is mainly for playing Online games etc, but, a mate was telling me that, you can access the XBOX's stuff... HD mainly through the LAN... Put MP3s on it and so on... Is this true?

You can but it needs to be modded. Unfortunately talk of that isn't permitted here, but I suggest doing a bit of research into Xbox modding - the potential is awesome.
