Hello.

I want to double up on my storage so I have a backup of every drive but doing so will mean I need more bays for HDD in my Thermaltake Kandalf. Has anyone used one of these before? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-011-LL can I still use the foam blanking plates on my case in front of the cage i.e. like I do with the supplied cage? Or should I look at alternative methods of storing the drives?

Thanks.

Buy 2 gig drives and replace/go external and use disk imaging software to save space on them.

I've just bought 2 x Scythe hard disk stabilizer x4's these fit 4 x 3.5 drives in 3 x 5 1/4 bays. Just beware they are bare cages with no front panel or fans etc. They have a mounting system that include rubber stand offs for the cage, so should also be reasonable quiet.

Unfortunately OCUK don't stock them, I found them on a well known auction site.

I don't trust USB external drives that much and other alternatives such as ESATA will get pricey. Plus I have plenty of space inside my case.

Will that lian li device fit into an antec sonata II cdrom drive bay area ?

I expect so as long as you have 3x 5.25 bays free, but haven't used or seen it before.

They look good and will be more descreet behind the foam panels on the front of my case. I shouldn't need additional cooling anyway with the eco drives?

Thermaltake do their own cage for the Kandalf/Armour. The icage i believe it's called.

There are always these as an alternative.

I would like to have a new case at some point in the future. This one is getting slightly loud so am not that bothered about having it matching. I plan to have a black case next time round too.

Edit: Decided to go for the LianLI one. Noticed the HDD were a couple of pounds cheaper too. :)

you could always screw one side of your hds into your 5 1/4" bays and fabricate a "U" shaped bracket from thin steel/ally for the other side.

Expecting a pair of this in the next few days. Had to go for that instead of the Lian Li EX-33B1 type because I don't have 3 free 5.25" slots. Note though, I'll be mainly using for either a 2.5" HD (repair lots of laptops) or a SSD in future therefore don't luck of a cooling fan shouldn't be an issue
