Can someone please help.
My wife's employer wants to know now at 25 weeks pregnant if she wants to take additional maternity leave and if so the date she wants to come back.

If we can afford it, she wuld like to take the full year off but I will not know if we can afford this for another few months depending on how my job pans out.

My understanding is she can say she wants to take a year off but can come back earlier if she gives them 28 days notice. Am I right ?
Thanks.

I will have to check but I don't think you need to make any decision until 2 weeks prior to the start of maternity leave. Don't let the management bully you into making a decision until you are ready. On the other hand, inform personel as soon as you know.

Maternity Leave - For Men?!?

Hey,

i just started a new job in Feb this year and we are expecting a baby very soon. I have spoken to my boss and he told me i am not getting any maternity leave - only for the days she is in hospital.

So basically when she comes home i will need to either go back to work, or take additional holidays off if I want to stay at home.

is my boss being legally correct?

I am pritty sure dads get two weeks leave best check with your personnel manager for your rights. Best of luck on the baby.

I dont know if it is job specific but my employee allows me 2 weeks off the first week is piad, the second week is not.

A women can take 6 months maternity leave (Normally Paid) and then 6 months unpaid leave, of which you must inform the employer no later then 2 weeks before you are due to return to work.

fathers-to-be are entitled to 2 weeks paid (£108 per week) paternity leave but in most cases, must inform their employer within 25 weeks of pregnancy (15 weeks before the baby is due)

I'm currently in the same boat, my gf is 24 weeks pregnant now and my dilemma is that my g/f may have to have a section which will bring us 3 weeks early(ish)

So, how long exactly do you need to have been in your employment to be eligible for some paternity leave?

6 months minimum? or longer/shorter?
