Hi,

My mum wants to buy an iPad. I'm thinking she could buy a 16gb model and some form of external storage rather than a larger capacity model. I've seen a product called the Sandisk Connect which is basically a form of wireless storage. Its about £40 for a 32gb model that has a battery life of 4hrs. Just wondered if you guys knew of an alternative product that is similarly priced bit with a longer lasting battery?

Cheers,
Marcus

Plex would be great for this, but i think you'd need some form of a 'proper' NAS. Although, is this media bought from itunes or something say...you've downloaded?

It's some downloaded stuff. She wants to use the iPad at work because she has long breaks and wants watch stuff to pass the time. An internet connection isn't available.

Ah, im pretty sure unless you've got some kind of internet connection, it wont work. Someone could correct me though. Id buy an ipad with the highest amount of storage you can afford.

I'd just buy a larger model, and save the faff of carrying around extra storage / charging it up etc.

I use a Hootoo Tripmate to connect to portable usb drives. It also doubles up as a charger when my Ipad/Iphone is low on power.

How technical is your mum?

Because if you start faffing around with wireless hard drives and the like you might end up as a 24/7 IT Support Hotline.

Believe me, I gave my old iPad to my grandparents....never again.

Thanks for the help guys, she ended up going for a 64GB version. Just like the Macbooks, for the actual gubbins your overpaying big time but design wise Apple products are pretty awesome.

That Hootoo Tripmate looks interesting, might have to buy one even I don't really need it ;)
