Hi just got a cheap compaq presario 2500 and it seems slow for 2.8ghz!

I did the SiSoft Sandra tests and it seems it's the memory settings.. How can these be changed?

I have 512mb of 2700 (infinion) in but it's running at like 25% efficiency! I have a fresh install of XP and updated bios but nothing is configurable, are there any programs out there?

thanks.

It's just running slower than it should be accourding to the benchmark, but I cant adjust them anywhere!

Oh and would you know what motherboard i'm using?

I have a pentium 4 of some type running 2.66Ghz

I'm just wondering if I could replace with with another compatible CPU. It is removable but don't know what socket etc it is.

the memory wont run 100% efficiency according to sisandra, even a A64 with a onboard memory controller built into the cpu gets +80%

But 20%?? Do you know what socket this CPU is? There are centrinos etc knocking about with 2mb cache and 400mhz fsb which this one is I think.

If it's 2.8ghz it'll just be a netburst P4 chip, centrino platforms would have the Pentium-M. Hopefully it'll be a Northwood chip and not a Prescott, what does CPU-Z say?
Check it's not throttling, those chips can get insanely hot in laptops.
Have you got any other benchmarks to check results? All drivers installed, like chipset, etc?

hi, i don't know what netburst means lol. It's Northwood according to CPU-Z.

I've put arctic silver on the chip when I rebuilt it so it should be cool.

What suitable benchmarks are there for a laptop of this spec? CPU-Z says HP 0850

I cant believe how slow this is though. My IBM 240 beats it easily loading windows and that is a celly 400!!! with 192mb ram and a 66mhz FSB.
