Evening folks,

I'm having a little trouble updating my graphics card driver,for some reason every time I try and install the driver I get a black screen and then it won't go any further. It will just stay on this black screen and it won't do anything till I have to reset the computer.
I can't imagine this being good for my ssd, I did however notice something, I've been getting a blue screen every once in a while now while playing Football Manager 2014 and watching something on youtube at the same time (this is what prompted the driver update.
The BSOD error was SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.
I've tried uninstalling and installing the driver via safe mode as well but I also get an error in that too.

My system specs are:

Windows 8.1 pro 64bit
ATI 7970

Any help is appreciated :)
 
BSOD can be a pain to track down. First I would run memtest86 over night for testing the memory.
About the black screen, do you have on board display enabled at the same time? I used to get a black screen from updating drivers if I had both igpu and gpu enabled.

Try see if it is enabled in the bios.
 
Hi Shankly,

I'll be trying this as soon as I get home, I temporarily fixed it by doing a system restore but just incase I think I'm going to do a backup of my system in the event I need to do a reinstallation of windows or anything lol.
