Administator rights problem

I'm having an issue trying to grant my account full access to the WINDOWS folder on my C drive. Every time I try I get a message saying I don't have permission. I am administrator and what I'm attempting to do is add an IP address to this file:

C / Windows / System32 / Drivers / etc folder/hosts

Any help is much appreciated.

Have you tried opening notepad and then navigating to the file using the Open command?

Run as Administrator on the Notepad shortcut.

Thanks, that did it. I feel stupid not knowing that. I just assumed as an admin I had admin rights period.

I presumed that this is what you were doing and it not working. Anyway, administrate away!

to simplify this, I open CMD with elevated permissions and then browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc and type "notepad hosts"

Question, why in this day and age are you needing or wanting to edit the hosts file

To view a website via the domain in a test environment for example?

That should be hosted on IIS or similar with appropriate test DNS records, if you want to actually operate true DevOps

i've had to do this because i set up Antispyware BEacon, and for reasons best known to itself it blocks the redict thingy that WMP uses to get album info etc.
