Hi

Just a quick query as only the quoteline will be open for Admiral rather than the full on support desk tonight, and I'm curious as to the answer....

Currently a student living away from home sans car, but am going back home for christmas and would rather like the use of said car. However I don't need it when I am back here, and thus I'm wondering if Admiral and co allow you to suspend a policy, then reactivate it when I am back for easter, summer, etc.

I know they allow suspensions when selling the car, but I obviously won't have done that.

I can't get temp cover of any sort on the car due to my age and any other insurer quotes silly money for my car so if they don't I might end up selling. Or pay a fortune setting up and canceling policies each time I am home.

The car currently has a storage insurance policy on it so it being uninsured for periods of time is not an issue.

Cheers.

I'm guessing they only allow you to suspend it if you haven't made a claim? They wouldn't allow me to suspend mine for a month when my car was rendered un-driveable due to being used as a motorcycle parking space.

If there was a possibility you had been in a fault accident, of course they wouldn't allow you to suspend it, until they had investigated.
I was suprised that I was allowed to transfer my policy to a new car without paying any extra after I had my accident when I was 17, mind. All my fault, too.

When I was at uni I left my car insured for the duration and would just use it as and when I returned from Uni.

Even though my car at the time was a total **** box I didn't want to leave it uninsured and it helped to accrue my NCD, 9 months of the year I wasn't driving and it was sat on the drive. Now I have 5 years NCD (22) rather than 2 or 3, if I had suspended my policy, so now that I can afford nicer cars the insurance is also more reasonable too.

My insurance is more than reasonable as is (I seem to be very 'lucky' in regards to insurance), I am not paying £500 for the 9 months I won't be at home, the difference on an insurance quote will almost certainly be less than that, and as such it's a waste imo.
