Adobe Flash causing lock ups?

Hi, I've had a string of probs with freezing / lock-ups on this new rig since I built it about 6 weeks ago. At first I thought it was RAM related but I discovered that they only happen when I'm browsing on-line and after a lot of trial & error I've pinned it down to a problem with Flash Player (I think).

At first I thought it might be FireFox 4 (which I use all the time) but it happens in exactly the same way in IE 8 as well.

Tonight I uninstalled Falsh Player (V.10.3) as an experiment and had no problems at all when browsing (other than not being able to see any Flash vids). I then downloaded and installed a fresh version from Adobe and as soon as the adds started on MSN home the PC froze. Sometimes it freezes and locks-up completely and at others it re-boots.

Does anyone know why this should be happening?

PS I'm using a fairly recent fresh install of Win 7 home 64 (Retail) which is fully updated + SP1. However, the same thing happend when I was running this PC previously using an ISO image of Win7 on 30 day trial.

Everything else works absolutely fine. It will play music all day and night / run back-ups, go to sleep + wake up etc. all ok.

I'm baffled (and annoyed)

Has this happened to anyone else?

I've been having 5-10 second freezes with the past 2 build 10.2.(159 I believe it was called) and 10.3. Google maps has been a specific offender. If you read the release notes there's a string of video/rendering bugs with cause freezes, premature stops or poor performance in this release caused by a gpus, drivers, windows and browsers http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/901/cpsid_90194.html .

Good luck narrowing it down which, I assume, is the problem Adobe faced when coding this build :)

Ah. Thanks for the reply, I suppose it's some consolation knowingthat it's not just me :(

I've been playing around with uninstalling / installing fresh versions of things and I'm going to see if I can find a video driver that will work ok.

Mm GPU is an ATI Radeon HD5770 Flex and the driver is dated 26/1/11 and I'm sure it's the latest but I'm going insearch of something else tonight because this bug is really annoying.

Thanks agian for the reply

I have been experiencing freezing every day at work with firefox 4 and flash but when i restart the browser after ending the process it is ok again until the net day. I have the same set up at home so don't know what is wrong yet.

It is definitely flash, but not sure why.

Went to ATI and downloaded the latest Catalyst package which is dated 9/5/11 and the video driver in that is dated 19/4/11 so I've updated. So far so good tonight but I haven't really had a chance to test it. It's just a question of wait and see what happens I suppose???
