Hi

I have put Reader 9.0 out across a few systems and now PDF files will not open in a web browser, i have had to un tick the option within reader so that links now fire up reader instead,
But i really need to get PDF opening in the browser agin,
This is only happening with Reader 9.0

Any one else come across this problem? or now of a way to fix it?

Thanks
Keith

Have come across the problem in v8, but not 9.

Is the option you mention...

Edit - Preferences - Internet - Display in browser ?

Which internet browser are you using?

That is the option to allow / disallow PDF in browser,

But thats not the problem,

By default that option is ticked, but when you click a PDF link the browser throughs up an error saying Reader 8 or 9 is needed to open the files.

Un ticking that box then alows the files to open in Reader its self.

But we need the files to open in the browser,

All systems are using IE as the browser.

I understand, I was just double checking that was the option you were referring to. :)

I would suggest checking the security settings in IE to ensure scripts are allowing to be run correctly etc.

I've also just had a quick search on google & it suggests having 2 versions of AAR installed will also cause this kind of problem.

Definatly not 2 versions installed, the installation process for 9 removes the earlyer version as far as 8, 7 and 6 (i think)
The systems involved definatly only have 9 on them,
I have done some google searching my self and found a couple options, neither of which i can get to work,
1) uninstall and reinstall, done that with the full installation package downlaoded from Adobe rather than the extracted version used by the GPO, still have the same problem,
2) a couple registry adjustments that should tie Reader 9 to the browser, tryed this on a test system and still getting the error.

I have looked at IE settings and all seems fine,
After all this was working with version 8, and has only stopped with 9.

Looking on adobes forums there are a resonable amount of posts about this, yet i cant find any thing offical frrom adobe, so they cant think it is a huge problem.

What actually happens when you click a link to a PDF? Anything at all?

Click a link in IE and it pops a message up saying

Message said:
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again

But version 9 is installed,
If i un tick the display in browser option within reader it fires reader its self up and opens the file when i link is clicked, but i really need to get the files opening in the browser again.

I'm probably just reading everything you already have so apologies, but have you seen the knowledge base article at adobe.com?

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405461

I assume you have seeing as you've tried some registry tweaking, have you tried the last bit - trying it when logged on with a local admin account?

I'd consider rolling the old version back out and do some testing on V9, something definately sounds amiss.

Good luck :)

One of the systems tested on was a clean windows install had never had previous versions of Reader installed so i would be supprised if previous version files are a problem,

I do however seem to have found a solution, in the GPO package i had the EULA suppressed so users did not have to accept it, i done it for them,
On a system that had not been updated Via GPO i installed and accepted the EULA and browser integration works.
I hope this is the answer to the problem, and i will now hunt down the registry setting that accepts the EULA and remove it so the affected systems have to accept it again.
