Hi there is Adobe reader 8 the best type of pdf reader ,or is there anything better ? as i have heard is is very much a memory hog etc ?

Yes, foxit is a breath of fresh air.

I got fedup with all the Adobe processes running and checking for updates and downloading all sorts of items - they weren't small downloads either. Adobe was hogging my resources and staying resident even though I'd shut it down. Lord knows what adobe is doing that foxit can do in such a small package!

"Adobe reader, took us to a new level for document reading, but then just went too far!"

I'll get of me soap box.

Yeah Adobe was good, ages ago. I haven't used the reader since version 6 I think. Its just so bloated and as you say, Foxit does all I need it to do in one little app with no services or a several hundred megabyte install like Adobe Reader on my flatmate's laptop.

After this thread just installed Foxit, well impressed 3Mb and loads really fast, can't tell the difference and nothing in msconfig and startup,:)
