Adobe Reader UPDATE is really ******* me off.

Keeps popping up with updates.

I don't want it running in the background.

AcroRd32.exe is using 26,000K of memory.

I didn't start it , why is it even running?

Check that it isn't in the start up folder: start--programmes--start up, if it is delete it. If not there try start--run--type "msconfig" without the quotes, and select the start up option, look for it in that list and deselect it.
The 3rd option is to install this: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/ and get rid of adobe. I use Foxit now as my main pdf reading programme :)

I didnt even know there was a setting. I unchecked a box in the preferences. Thx

Just annoyingthe way it kept appearing even though I wasn't using the dam programme.

AcroRd32.exe only starts after Acrobat Reader has started - so the fact it was running on your machine does mean that you've run it at some time.
The actual process is quite well known not to close down correctly - I've seen machines where Acrobat Reader has been closed down and the process continutes to run and has done for days.

Just tell the application not to attempt to update itself and all should be well.
