ADSAdClient31 popup due to msn adverts

Some forums are reporting msn client might be causing a download this .dll file message when the adverts in msn rotates.
Using adblocker etc seems to stop this, else it is simply a case of not downloading or installing the dll until MS sort the issue.

Anyone encountered it?

Hmm further looking would suggest this thing is 69 bytes in length, and is tied to some form of spyware advertising, and has been around since 2003.

Got this pop up last night about 1:45am. Quickly cancelled it. I was unsure what it was though!

Yeah i was wondering if some slightly naughty ad has made it onto the msn rotation, as one would think if it has they've heave sorted it within a short period of time.

Been sick of MSN for a while, especially since it managed to lose my entire contact list, and I can't recover it *sigh*. This thread just made me check I had Windows Live Mail configured.. and then .. adiós to MSN Messenger.. I don't use it any more anyway.

The adverts I've been sick of for a few years.. and even after the 'hack' to remove them, they weren't entirely gone.

Resetting your browser to default settings, and then resetting browser security to default, followed by rebooting should give it a kicking.

How is the browser invloved though, as its messenger giving me the prompt not Firefox?

IE may not be your default browser, but that doesn't stop certain programs from making use of it.

Started getting his yesterday too, looked very suspicious but stopped after I hit cancel once - quick Google search of the name yielded this result: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120503103546AABYVZ4. Haven't tried it yet but there seem to be several sites with similar solutions (might have to try some if it comes back again).

Add rad.msn.com to the Restricted Sites zone like so.

A-Patch fixed it for me.

I suspect it's a server-side configuration error; the .dll is supposed to deliver the ads to the user's machine rather than itself.
