ADSL 2 modem replacement advice with SNR tweaks

I'm out of the loop at the moment. The DGTeam thread reminded me. I have an old DG834GT that is on its last legs.

Can anyone recommend a new router which can have custom firmware installed? Specifically I am after tweaking the SNR to squeeze a bit more out of the line.

Most modems will do this these days, even my standard talktalk supplied D-Link modem has SNR manipulation.

The best all round ADSL2+ modem/router which i have experienced of late is the Billion 7800N. I am not sure about custom firmware but i dont see why you would need it, the Billion is feature packed.

Excellent, thank you As I said I'm way behind with ADSL modems as in all honesty the Netgear worked.... so I left it alone.

Not all routers even with full tweaks can hold a line as well as others the 834s tended to hold on like a limpet in line conditions that most modems/routers would have long since dropped the connection.

Yeah the 834GTs did the best router based snr tweaks, the chipsets in them are the best you will probably see for up to 24mb circuits

I own the 7800n and a dsl-n55u, they're both equally awesome on long lines (4+ miles) and my short line (80 metres)

I use the dsl-n55u as mine and gave the 7800n to my mum. The Asus has a better gui.

Both have tweakable snr (simpler to do on the asus) and both can dynamically increase speed on the fly without dropping the connection

II'd ignore any reviews you find for the asus as the original firmware was rubbish, it's awesome now.
