Hi

My BB connection has been very bad the last 3 weeks, pages slow to load, video streaming not working at all.
I spoke to BT, they did a line test and said all was well...
I have reebooted the router several times, even reset it to defaults, no difference, however, I changed they DNS setting from Auto to manual and added OpenDNS IP's and now at least I can stream videos again, but I still get the odd dropped packet.
Looking at my router stats page shows the following.... Never seen any errors before all this started...

Statistics_________Downstream_Upstream
Line Rate___________2496 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin ___________8.9 dB 16.0 dB
Line Attenuation _______62.0 dB 29.5 dB
Output Power_________18.0 dBm 12.1 dBm
K (bytes in DMT frame)_______79 15
R (bytes in RS code word)____16 16
D (interleaver depth)_________16 4
Super Frames__________6845120 6845118
Super Frame Errors___________64 0
RS Words____________232734092 58183503
RS Correctable Errors______12811 56
RS Uncorrectable Errors______509 0
HEC Errors__________________57 0

So, Is this my line or a fault in my router... BT say its not the line. The router is a BT voyager 2500v.

I have just come here as in the past day my speed has dropped dramatically. Max I can get HTTP or Torrents to go at is 80kbs. YouTube videos... well there is no point as you have to pause it at the start and wait 10 minutes. My ping in games is over 900. It's not my pc and I'm pretty sure it's not my router (BT Home Hub Black).

I'm going to have to get my Dad to give them a ring tomorrow.

Sorry to Hijack the thread again.

Your DSL connection rate: 7456 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 750 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 664 kbps

If the IP profile is so low would that mean that I have been capped or is it a error on BTs part?

Well I have the router running off an extension that was fitted when the house was built about 2 years ago, just plugged the router direct into the master socket and, tried two filters, getting the same results!!!

Last time I spoke to them they said they would need to send an engineer and that if the fault was at my end, they would charge me £60+ ???

Not Impressed!

Well just got off the phone with BT...

No fault on the line, so they are sending me a new router (BT home Hub :( ).
If this does not fix it then they are going to send an engineer...

If it does work, im going straight out to get a decent router :)
Any recommendations for a good wireless modem router, must have good wireless range and at least three network ports?

CRC and HEC errors are pretty normal on ADSL.

You've only got a few... when you start getting 100's per minute that's when you have a real problem.

My line, after just 2 hours of sync, has 18 CRC and 15 HEC errors on the downstream. Just 2 CRC on upstream. ADSL2+ w/ fast path though... so that's pretty good.

If your on BT Broadband - then they've been pretty terrible lately - throttling a large number of customers to 896kbit/s for video streaming - regardless of which package they are on (despite claiming its just option 1) and regardless of how heavy or not a user you are... youtube and iplayer have been semi useless during "peak" times and other traffic can be quite slow with web pages frequently stalling... ping times should be fairly normal tho and at silly hours like 4am you should see full speeds :(

Their DNS servers seen a bit wonky atm as well - either that or something is intercepting and processing web traffic before forwarding it, randomly causing delays or dropped packets - even using open DNS doesn't help much - but proxying through my VPN does - so suggests BT doing something naughty with web traffic.

I was up till 5am last night with torrents going and Steam going hoping that I was capped at peak times like I normally am. But It would just not go over 80kbs. Plus if I had uTorrent running it was impossible to browse the web. Like I had maxed out my pipe.

I hate BT so much. The annoying thing is my Dad renewed the contract despite him asking for me to find a new ISP. So I'm stuck with them for another 12 or so months. By then I'm pretty sure I wont be living at home any more lol.

With your IP profile that low it won't go over 80KByte/s down stream any how - you'll either need to maintain a higher sync for 1-5 days for it to rise or get onto BT if it doesn't because the profile is stuck.

With the recent thundery weather I lost 1500kbit or so off my sync with resulting drop in profile but it picked up again a couple of days later.
