Hi People

Does anyone know were I can get my hands on high quality ADSL filters??? ( gold connectors for example )

I'm just trying to get the most stable connection possible with as low a ping as I can.

Cheers all...

As Overclockers sell ADSL hardware it is gonna be hard to give you help but XF-1e is a good filter, you can also buy faceplates such as the XTE-2005.

I use a Speedtouch filter myself, it seems alright, nice and heavy, full of phat capacitors hopefully compared to some.

Google will help with this task.

buy a XTE-2005, you will be impressed. They just fit over the master socket no wiring needed.

Hi.

Could you explain the XTE-2005? I don't really understand it.
If I buy one, I won't need any ADSL filters? I am using MaxDSL at the moment and my SNR is 6db. I do have an alarm and it is plugged into the phone, this could be lowering my SNR, right?
At the moment nothing is plugged into the master socket, my PC's are all upstairs so we use the extension upstairs.

If you could forward me to a website, or explain this to me it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The only websites that sell them happen to be competitors.

It's a replacement for the bottom part of your master socket, which includes the jiggerypokery from a microfilter. The idea is that you then connect your modem to the ADSL side (with decent quality cable), and your phones to the phone side (as with an ordinary extension) - the difference being that with less (poor quality) extension wiring floating around, you might see an improvement.
Especially with Max, where you'd most likely see an increase in sync rate as opposed to an increased SNR margin.

Spot on. Google for "XTE-2005" you will pick some sites up expliain more detail about them. I'm on ADSLmax and much better with one of these on.

Hmm.

I think my master socket is one of the old ones. If I ask BT do you think they would come round and replace it for a newer one?

I already have a wireless router so I will probably put both PC's onto wireless and move the router to the master socket.

They should do its their equipment, maybe for a small charge though.

Thats cool.

Right....

I just phoned BT and I explained what I wanted. He basically didn't have a clue what I was talking about, but asked me to clear my cookies and temporary internet files.
He then started saying my P.C is rubbish and can't handle it.
Here's our conversations;

Him: "How much RAM do you have?"
Me: "2GB"
Him: "No, how much RAM do you have?"
Me: "2GB"
Him: "I think you are getting a little confused. Right click on my computer and go to properties, and tell me how much RAM you have".
Me: "2GB RAM!!!!"
Him: "Oh, you have quite a good P.C".

It was quite funny really, but I'm peeved I actually paid for the phone call.

He done a check on my line and it is connected at the full 8.2MB, but my actual speeds are 2-4MB. I said all along, It's the internal house wiring, can you please send a bloody engineer out to change the old master socket, but he never listened.
After all that, he just said "Yes, It's your internal wiring, there is nothing we can do, you need to find a local engineer to come out and have a look".

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

How do I find a local engineer? I guess at least it has ruled out any faults on the line, I just want a bloody engineer!!!

Is the XTE-2005 filter any better than the normal BT installed ones?

Reason I ask, I bought myself a

Genuine BT Master NTE5 Linebox ADSL Adaptor

a few years ago, I take it there haven't been any miraculous advances in microfilter technology?

I'm not really after upgrading though as such, I get decent speeds and SNR atm:

Up Speed 448000
Down Speed 8128000
SNR 14.5
Att 19.5

Was just curious more than anything as to the difference if any

If your modem is synching at 8Mbps, your speed issue has nothing to do with your wiring.

My SNR often drops below 6dB and I have alarms, Sky TV, etc plugged into the phone. So I thought hopefully if the XTE-2005 could increase my SNR, it will make my speeds more stable?

Unless you lose sync, and resync at a reduced speed (in the range 2-4Mbps), no.

Hi All

Sorry.
I should have just asked for the name of a good quality filter.
Forgot I'm not supposed to ask for competitors to OCuk.

I'll Google XTE 2005 and see what it comes up with.

Cheers :)
