I have just gone back to ADSL from cable. I had to have a new line installed from the pole to the house so was expecting a good line but it sounds pretty crackly. I initially thought it was my wireless router interfering with my cordless phones but the cracle is there even with no power to the router.
I have found that my ADSL connection has dropped out a couple of times since its instal, i know that the line is tested for approx 10 days post instal to determin the max line speed but i fear that i might have a dodgy line.
The router says this about line noise, maybe someone in the know could give there opinion on this:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7040 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 25.0 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 14.0 db 24.0 db

i know nothing but they seem pretty good
They do, low line attenuation and good signal strength, odd that your value for remote noise margin is higher than your local though isnt it?

If your still getting crackling on the line with your phone though get in touch with BT, your ADSL stats are good but theres clearly a normal telephone problem there i imagine.

Nope. It's generally considered normal.

As said, if there's noise without any ADSL equipment, phone BT (or whoever's providing your voice service in the case of full LLU or wholesale line rental). It might be a good idea to try a different (non-cordless) phone first though.

I use to get lots of static / line noise but then i realised the micro filter for the line was sat on top of a power outlet with 2 AC>DC convertors pluged in, since i have moved it i dont have a problem.
