Hi all,

I've got someone who is on BT Business Broadband. The router is connected at a solid 8mbit (they are close to the exchange). I think this means they are on ADSL Max, but think they should be on ADSL2 or LLU to get quicker speeds, i.e. 16-24mbit? They spoke to BT who said that is the best service they can get on the exchange.

Can they get any quicker from another provider? I thought ADSL2 was available for all the exchanges some years ago? Or is this what LLU is? They have Sky and Talktalk on the LLU list available. FTTC isn't on the BT list yet so will be a couple of years.

Router stats below

G.DMT
Annex A
Downlink 8128000
Uplink 1024000
SNR Margin 10.0
Loop Att. 6.0

Any ideas or help to get them on quicker service would be appreciated.

G.DMT suggests it's training on ADSL, if it was ADSL2+ I'd expect it to say G.992.5. Can you change the ADSL mode on the router?

Hi, yep it can be changed, see below.

I'll give it a try in a day or two when I see them next. Thanks

If you stick Modulation to Multimode it should pick the best option automatically (eg ADSL2 over G.DMT (ADSL)).

I'm pretty sure you will have to contact BT business broadband and ask for the line to be regraded to adsl2+ , it's not automatic as I've just had to so the same with Plusnet . Adsl2+is available on the exchange you linked that's what the 21cn wbc status is. Assuming you don't go the LLU route that is.

Good news, now connected at 18Mbit :) The Auto mode kept it on ADSL1, so I tried the various options of ADSL2/2+ and they all gave about 18. Speedtests only give about 11 so it seems a bottleneck with BT now. Either way its connecting quicker and seems more responsive than before.

Thanks all

Profile is okay, just seems slow - see below from the BT checker.

Download speed achieved during the test was - 9.81 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is - 16 Mbps

How are you connecting to the router?

Try via ethernet. Both wireless / powerline can be horrible to your speeds!
