Just a quick question, does the line testing done on ADSL Max start straight after the line has been activated, or from when you log in your connection details to the router for the first time?

The reason Im asking, is that I have just connected to the Nildram 8mb service I ordered (the line was activated about a month ago), and it is going incredibly slowly. I am getting downloads of roughly 25kbps, so is there anything painfully obvious that could be causing the slow speed?

Im really at a loss here :(

Training starts afaik from when the router first gets a sync with the exchange. This is why they tell you it is best to keep it switced on 24/7 as frequent rebooting of the router looks like a line problem and the exchange lowers your speed to get stability.
So yeah if you only just switched the router on then yeah 10 days have just started, but to be honest it took me a good month for me to get the full 7-8mb speeds off peak and around 2-4mb at peak times.

SpeedTest if you run that test every day or so you should your speed slowy going up.

Thats fine then, at least there is no problem which is what I was worried about.

It is still usable for browsing so all is good, thanks a lot mate :)

What are your stats, ie. sync speed and SNR margin? When you tried the BT speedtest, what did it say your bras profile is?

Incidentally there is nothing wrong with rebooting your router occasionally. It would only look bad to BT if you were resyncing regularly.

How can I check things like my sync speed and SNR margin? Im going to run the BT speedtest quickly, and see what that comes up with.

Im slightly more worried about this now, is it usual for ADSL max to be this slow when the line is being tested? It is literally half the speed of 512k, and has been since I first logged on through my router yesterday.

Look at your router?

Depends on the line. If it's only capable of 256kbps that's all you'll get...

Well, Nildram said it would be at least 4mb, so I bloody hope not....

Ok, this is what I got after checking my router stats, no idea what any of this means though, so any help will be much appreciated.

Right, the speed is still exactly the same as it was when I first logged on.

Does anyone else have similar experience to this when they first used their adsl max (the 10 day testing period) or is it unusually slow?

Your stats are healthy and with a sync speed of 4000kbps you should get a bras profile of 3500.

What did the BT speedtest say your bras profile is? It sounds like it may be on 250 for the time being but if your sync speed stays at 4000kbps then you should automatically be given a higher bras profile after a few days.

Well, I would run the Bt speed checker, but it comes up with this message:

Performance Tester was not able to find all the network details required for telephone number: .............

Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service, and if not try again. If you believe it is the correct number for your service then please raise this as a fault with your service provider.

Hmm weird - perhaps their systems need a few days to update with your info, as you are new to MAX?

Anyway when I went onto MAX a few months ago, I also endured poor speeds for several days, after which it corrected itself. So give it more time :)

Yeah, its probably something like that. Hopefully, mine will sort itself like yours did, cheers :)

I've just got an ADSLMax connection and it's really slow aswell, much worse than my old 2mb conenction was. Browsing is slow, downloads are coming down at like 20k\sec and my pings in BF2 & WoW are terrible (500+)!!

My modem currently connects at 7.6Mbps, and i'm hoping it starts performing like that soon!
