I've been experimenting with my network trying to get it to work with the BBC multicast trials. Despite my ISP Supporting it and my router being setup correctly I can't receive it for some reason.

Anyway just out of curiosity I thought I'd try it with a direct non routed link and so dug out my old Linksys ADSL2MUE Ethernet Modem and plugged that directly to my laptop. Annoyingly enough that didn't work either. Then for some reason or other I thought I'd see what would happen if I plugged it into a switch (Netgear FS108 nothing special). So I did.

So I was very very surprised and confused when I discovered that by plugging my plain Ethernet ADSL Modem into a switch I could actually access the internet from both of the two PCs that I tested it on!

Can anyone explain this 'cus it's got me stumped :o

Thanks, null :)

I had assumed that because it's labelled 'Modem' that it wasn't doing any routing. I understand completely that if it had NAT then it would all work like that. I guess I just wasn't expecting it to have NAT.
