ADSL modem only

I have just got a lovely new Buffalo "Nfinity Wireless-N Router and Access point" and foolishly did not check that this was all I needed to link my wireless PCs to the new Boradband service!

I now find that I need a modem and on looking around I see two main types:
* Wireless router with modem included - seems rather pointless to have two wireless routers in the mix and I can't see it helping a novice set up the system!
* USB Modem - can this be used with the Buffalo?

What I want is something small and simple that sits between the Buffalo and the ADSL point as a modem (hence my question about the USB sticks).

What do the assembled experts recommend?

Thanks in advance

What links does it allow on the back of the ap?

do you mean what connections are there on the back of the Buffalo box? There are four LAN ports and one "WAN" port. This last is described as "auto sensing". All ports are RJ45 types

Looking at this I realise how stupid the question about USB items is - there isn't anywhere to put one (though there are plenty on the NAS which will be attached to one of the LAN ports but I guess this will be pointless?).

Thanks again in advance

sod buying more stuff, send the buffalo back and buy something appropriate.

This would be a last option as I have got Cards for the other PCs in the same family in the hope that this will make a) setting them up easier and b) them all work together given that this is a draft N machine and hence I guess that different companies will have done slightly different things within the Draft.

Thanks

yeh what connections. anyway sounds like because your on adsl you will have to eitha upgrade it to a full adsl router or use a old pc as a gateway.

I have never come accross an adsl modem with a WAN uplink port (RJ45). only RJ11 adsl port.

I second Clarkey,

You need and ADSL modem and router, the one you have would be appropriate for cable, not ADSL.

Go for swap. The easiest solution (could be the cheapiest too).

Good luck,

Cheers,
