Hi,

I've been having this problem for a few months now. Our BT phone line at work is very crackly and our ADSL router takes 30 odd minutes to get onto the internet. I need to keep restarting the router and eventually the internet decides to come on.

When i log onto the router, i notice the noise margin is showing crazy numbers like 7 trillon.

I must stress our router is not the problem, neither is our ISP. I use exactly the same ADSL router and ISP at home and i have no troubles. I know this is a bt line problem, but i need to know whether it could be an internal or external BT line problem. I don't want to call BT without knowing this.

Has anybody else had trouble like this?

No offence but this is a stupid comment, unless you mean you take the router home from work and use it on your home broadband as well...

Anyway, that aside, the best way to determine whether it's an internal or external fault is to:
1. Change microfilters. If there is no difference;
2. Go to the test socket with one telephone, your router and a microfilter. If the problem persists;
3. Change each device one at a time. If the problem persists here, try the telephone by itself in the filter, then straight into socket. If there's still crackling, then it's a telephone fault. If there's no crackling, the router is banjaxed.
