Hi,

Has anyone here ever experienced a problem with an ADSL line where it is not holding sync unless a phone is left off the hook (and even then it is producing audible noise on the line when sync'd).

Tried a couple of phones, routers/modems as well as microfilters (I usually use a BT faceplate). Anyone got any other suggestions that I can try before BT come out?

Thanks.

Sounds like a bad joint in your cable, when off hook more current flows temporarily healing the joint.

Its an ADSl filter problem or master socket.
Check your phone connections on the wall first then unscrew the master socket to check the state of the cables, the engineer who installed might of shaved too much outer insulation off the cable. Therefore you might have two live cables crossing each other causing the issues as described.

If it doesn't work at the master socket, there isn't much more you can do - contact your ISP.

You haven't heard much then - it's the usual symptom of a split pair.
