Hi.
Im currently having problems with our phone line, mainly hissing and the internet connection dropping.
BT dont think that theres a problem with the line, but would like to send an engineer to check our end, chargable to £113 if there isnt a fault with their equipment.

What im wondering, is could this be caused by a faulty microfilter, and would anyone here suggest replacing them (x3) with a better ones?
Or could it be the ADSL Router?

Its rarther annoying, because i previously synced at 4.5mbps, but got around 3Mbpsout of it. And now its syncing at below 2Mbps now. Rarther annoying.

Thoughts & advice?

Try using each filter with a single corded telephone in your test socket, and see if there's still noise on the line. If there is, with all 3 filters, then by all means get an engineer out. If the line is clear, the problem lies in your internal wiring and you'd obviously get charged by BT for the callout.

I'd firstly unplug all telephony devices from the line then plug an ANALOGUE phone into the master test socket. Dial 17070 and do a quiet line test. If you hear the hissing/crackles on that test then i'd be back on the phone to BT - just don't mention anything about your broadband or they'll fob you off to your ISP again.

If the line comes back ok then i'd be looking at getting a couple of decent filters and trying from the master test socket to see what speeds you get.

Also, post up your router line stats.

Well ive had time the last few days to try different filters on each of the extensions.
First i repalced the one the router was on, same problem, so i took the one that was there, put it on the next one down the line, same problem, then took that one and put it on the master socket, same problem.

So now that leaves either a faulty line or a faulty router.

Thoughts?

As said already, plug into test socket behind your faceplate, and do a quiet line test, on an analogue phone, if the problem still persists, then you almost certainly have a bt related fault, and should not be charged.

Without doing this, it could be anything, your router, filters, extensions etc.

try using 2 filter in series.I got 2 in series with my Bebox.
What would that achieve?

Might try that tomorrow morning when ive got some time.
So am i just plugging the router strait into the master socket, or am i literally doing a line test with my ears+a phone?

Well ive put two micro-filters on the extension that my router is on, so i'll see how it goes for now...
