Hey Recently i have been haivng a number of issues with my ADSL connection mainly connection being dropped. After speaking to tech they seem to think it could be my router.
I am with ADSL24 and just over a mile and a half from my exchange

I'm currently using a Linksys AG241 i have had it for a few years so its getting on.

Basically im after a replacement for it.

I play a lot of games and download the odd torrent

i have a wireless access point so wireless is not really required but i suppose i could save a plug if the router had built in wireless.

some of the routers iv looked at are:
Speedtouch 585v6
netgear DG834G

What are your recommendations?

Thanks

iv got a netgear one u could have for free if u wanted to pay the p&p. iv had it like 18months and is working fine but i just signed another contract with aol and they sent me another. so i thought i would use the new one and keep the old one as spare but if u want it u can.

Have a nosey at drayteks offerings too matey, we use them on all of our customers sites and they have a very very low failure rate, wireless is ok for home/small office use.

I have a Speedtouch 585v6 because it was recommended by my provider Zen. My service has been rock solid so from that point of view it is a very good router. However, my Vista laptop cannot share files from my XP computer when on wireless, and this is an issue with the router, although they might have released firmware to address this.

The control panel on the Speedtouch seems a bit basic in terms of configurability, especially when compared to Netgear, but this doesn't bother me as I'm not a gamer so I don't have many detailed config issues.

I also will be getting a 585 v6 and read they are fab at long distances. The control panel does seem basic but i read that Console commands are Very advanced. also there is someting called DMT tool that allows you to set your own desired SNR margin. http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/DMTv7.htm

right i think im gona go with

Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem/Router

sound good?

I recently installed one for a friend. It worked fine on Wireless with my Toshiba Satellite A200 (Vista) but not with her Dell Inspiron 1720 (Vista) which has a Broadcom wireless network card. I still think they're good routers but just be aware there seem to be some compatibility issues with some new computers.

If you go for a Netgear (recommended), get the DG834GT not just the plain G. The GT can be upgraded to after-market firmware and is much more customisable because of this. The Speedtouch 565 v5 is also a good router, especially for long lines, but for configurability and long-line tenacity the DG834GT is brilliant. Also includes built in "Turbo G" 108mbps wifi, and all the usual bells and whistles (and then some).

PS - See Bradley's kind offer above, maybe worth a PM? ;)
