I have a feeling this is not possible.

But is it possible to use an ADSL router with an RJ45 to BT(RJ11-like) to plug into another standard network thus creating a NATed extra(sub?) network?
It works fine with a cable modem I have, you simply plug the WAN socket into a switch and it gets an IP address and you have a whole different network, to play with :).

Is the ADSL modem part of the modem/router capable of such things? I have a hunch it isnt, as it's used to an analogue line, etc, but worth a post, to save me the hassle of getting a new one :)

I don't really understand what you mean?

On some modem routers you can set them so they'll be in "modem only" mode, with the switch ports acting like the 'WAN' port on your cable modem, passing traffic directly through etc.

I mean, plug (with an adapter) the WAN port of an ADSL router into a switch and have it run a separate network, perhaps even setup a WAP. You can do it with cable modem routers (my WRT54GL does it for sure)

I really don't think its possible, as the modem 'wants' an analogue phone line.

As I thought. I think I just needed it confirming...

i have access to loads of ADSL routers, but no cable routers, looks like i will have to shell out! :(
