Right then....

I currently have a NetGear DG834N RangeMax ADSL Modem Router and the wireless coverage at home used to be really good, but of late its just really rubbish! Im guessing that this may be partly due to the weather, the house construction and the number of wireless networks that are cropping up all the time.

What Im thinking is perhaps moving over to a dual band Draft N 2 router, or perhaps a router for downstairs with a repeater put in place to increase coverage upstairs.

Now I know that Im probably best of going over to a DD-WRT supported router, but which of the supported routers are draft N 2 compatable? And also, is there a draft n 2 reapter available at all?

And help, advice etc would be greatfully appreciated :)

Yep tried all the channels, some are better than others. But after a few days goes back to as before.

Better laptops provide software that can read WiFi signal strength in dB. Nobody can offer a solution. Only possible is 'try this and try that' speculation. You must learn where signal strength is strong and where noise ratios get bad. Learn where the dead spots are - then discover why.

For example, in one house, I could literally see the WiFi router (if I could see through wood). However, when even feet on the other side of a foundation wall (even through I could see the modem over the top of that wall if I could see through wood), signal strength dropped excessively. Using 'could be this and could be that' speculation, I would have never expected so much WiFi loss. Been left completely confused. Using same signal strength software, the WiFi router was repositioned to make signals strong everywhere.

Speculating that could be construction or other Wifis are just that - wild speculation. Actually learn what you have. Then solutions become easy.

In one location, I will return to mount some aluminum foil on a basement wall. So that Wifi signals are reflected around a Wifi impediment. Will it work? That is wild speculation. I will learn by installing it, then confirming it with that signal strength software (provided by the laptop manufacturer for free).
