Hi Peeps,

I have Sky BB at home i was on the free (2mb / 2gb) package. Just a few of hours ago upgraded to the unllimited package (20mb). When i looked at the line synch speed it went up to 4091 kbps almost straight away, but hasnt increased since? How long should I expect it to take to get to a higher speed??

Is it renegotiating synch speed with the exchange like when it is first installed? I seem to remember this takes at least 2-3 days?

Any info would be welcomed, Thanks!

Yeah, it sounds like DLM has started on your line, as it generally starts at 4Mb/s and works its way up from there.

It should increase in speed after about 3 days (mine increased to ~7Mb/s) then increase every day or two till it's at the maximum stable speed. It may just randomly stop (like mine did :(), in which case ring Sky up after about 10 days and they'll sort it out so it's at the correct speed.

Oh, and leave the router switched on for 10 days, otherwise the DLM can confuse turning the router off with disconnects, which will lower your speed as it will think that the current speed is unstable :).

Edit - Forgot to say, the speed increases are generally done early morning so that when the router reboots you're not interupted, generally 1-4AM iirc.

Thanks Bloomfield, thats pretty much what I thought was going on. Although i thought it would gradually increase, i gues it monitors stuff over a time, and the increases happen in steps. Thanks again for clarifying ;)

Mine has been installed since Thursday, started at about 4mb as yours has and today its running at 11mb.

I swapped from Be, was getting about 15 to 17 (it disconnected a lot) so I am hoping it settles at around 17, although from what I have been reading my line stats could do the full 20, here's hoping :p

you swapped FROM BE? jeez i thought Be/O2 where pretty much the best?

I upgraded early morning yesterday (1am ish) and it dropped down to the 4mb everyone sees. This morning it's up to 16 (should get around 18 from my line stats, if not better) though the throughput is only around 8mb. I assume it's still settling ?

I would have thought so, I upgraded on saturday, and it jumped up to 15mbps at about 3-4 am on Tuesday morning, although i suspect it could go faster (i live about 50m from the exchange (so cable should be onlu a few hundred meters at the most)

I sync at 13mb. I feel it could be a bit faster, maybe 15 or 16 but its very stable. (not one disconnection so far since july) Downloads are stable and fast enough at around 1.8mbps

So, mine seems to be settling at a sync of 16.3Mbps. What kind of throughput should this be giving me? I'm hitting around 11Mbps downloads, though speedtest.net is all over the place. I hoped for around 13Mbps - does that sound about right?
