ADSL while retaining dial-up? Help required...

Hi,

I am currently renting a friend's house and would like to enable broadband on the second phone line they use for dial-up. I would be using a wireless router as the line is downstairs and my PC is upstairs. My only concern is that they would still like their dial-up service available when they come to stay. Their PC isn't wireless enabled otherwise I'd simply share the broadband connection. I was wondering if anyone could offer a way round this? Could I plug their 56k modem into the Speedtouch 585 router I intend to buy or would I need to switch them around if dial-up was needed?

Thanks.

Is there any reason why you can't just plug their 56k modem into the phone socket on the ADSL filter while your router is plugged in the ADSL socket? Since ADSL keeps the standard voice part of the phone line free, there is no reason at all why a 56k modem won't work at the same time.

Also, since their PC plugs into the phone socket that suggests that it's located near where your router would be. Why not just connect their PC to your router via ethernet?

Sounds like the better plan. Going back to dialup sounds like a waste of money considering ADSL is installed an available. Either get them a wireless adapter (USB/PCI) or a USB ethernet adapter if there isn't already an ethernet port on the PC.
