ADSL Wireless Router for Plusnet

my Plusnet ADSL router has just packed up, they are sending out a replacement but I want to get a better one of my own and keep the replacement as a backup.
Are any makes/models better than others for speed, reliability, setting up etc.

Better in what way? Ignoring the fact that the existing router died, what wasn't it doing well enough?

And how much are you willing to spend?

its just there seems to be quite a few different makes/models for sale and the router supplied by Plusnet everybody says is cheap and nasty.
I have seen the Netgear DGN220 which look ok
