Hi guys, just want to run this by some electrician/networking gurus if they are about.

Is there anyway that a 240v power line can interfere with an ADSL2 line at all it if it was running next to it?
Also, what could cause interference?

I'm being told after many issues with ADSL2 at work that it could be inference from power cables running by the connection, which i'm generally signing off as BS until i can find some sort of proof. If it was running by a transformer or general device that would emit varying amounts of electrical interference like a power supply, then i would agree, but just power cables?

All electrical signals interfere with other electrical signals if they are close enough together.

One possible cause could be the switching power supplies that devices use these days. The high frequency switching that they use could maybe find it's way back into the power and this could upset the high frequencies of the ADSL signal. Devices are supposed to filter this but not all will.

There shouldn't really be a problem unless a really long run of telephone cable is sitting right next to a power cable and even then you wouldn't expect there to be a massive issue unless there's some sort of integrity issue with one or both of the cables.

Its possible yes, I have seen all sorts of things interfere with ADSL/ADSL2+, including kettle leads, microwaves, satellite dishes.

Yes, it is possible especially if they are running alongside each other for reasonably long distances. It's likely to cause noise and drops on the line.
