Hey all,

My ISP reported that my line was due for upgrade by BT on the 24th July.

I've been having constant issues with it disconnecting. I either have to log in to the router and reset or unplug it then plug it back in.

I've got a Netgear DG834G v3 router, firmware V4.01.40:

Modem
ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 7936 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 928 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38

None of it really means a lot to me bar the speeds, I am more of a "plug it in and hope it works" sort :p . Speedtest.net is showing no improvement in download, sitting at around 6mb but the uploaded has gone from 300kb to around 750kb.

Not sure if this is a hardware problem, or whether there's something else screwing up. Any advice?

Judging by the upload speed they have changed it over to adsl2 already.

The main reason for disconnects is that the noise margin gets too low, the target is approximately 7db.

If you have just been switched over you are likely to be in a new training phase, so you will have a fair few disconnects, until the BT systems work out what your line can handle. The poor thing being that adsl2 is much better for short lines but can actually be worse for a longer line.
