I have standard ADSL2 in a flat and need to update the router it as it is getting unreliable. Fibre is not going to be until June 2019 in the area.

Are there any routers that is recommended? I do not mind loading 3rd party software on them. Rather out of touch on this since getting Fibre in my place.

Ideally something that will allow Snr tweaking to eek out some speed.

You can do SNR tweaking on Draytek routers.

Draytek 2762AC / 2862AC but they aren't cheap.

Blimey! Yep not cheap.

Remembered something from the 'old days'. DG834GT, few £ on ebay. Now couple that with dd-wrt / tomato and it might be a winner?

No option to get a replacement router from the ISP?

Could be a shout, it's plusnet. Depends on what their routers are like?

The 3rd party firmware for those was DGTeam and they stopped updating/releasing a long, long time ago, you can source really old versions from 3rd party sites, but realistically it’s ancient hardware running near ancient firmware at this stage and you’d be better with something more modern.
