Ok, this is a wierd one.

Had a day off Monday so I was at home when the internet died. After a bit of checking, it seemed that my DG834 had died after a couple of years good service. The config page gave a status of connecting, but it wouldnt actually connect to the line (and if I ran the setup wizard it says it cannot detect a DSL connection on the line). i plugged in my old SMC Barricade modem/router and it connected straight away, so it seemed clear the Netgear had given up the ghost.

I brought a new DG834G Thursday and plugged it in Friday to find it has exactly the same problem as the previous one! :(

Now I'm currently at my parents for the weekend, so I decided to test both Netgears on their BTBroadband connection, and they work fiine

Any suggestions? I've currently got two DG834s in perfect working order, and yet neither will work on my line

I'm gonna fire off an email to both Netgear and ADSL24 tomorrow night when I get back, as it seems that something has changed somewhere on my connection to stop the Netgears working (the original one has been fine for 2 years on the same line).

ok this is odd,
I'm having REAL connection issues with mine too! have been the last few days now!!
I thought it was my phone line but I think it could run deeper than that now.

I had an issue with a Netgear DG834 router (not sure of the exact model) and was told by my broadband provider (Zen) that the signal strength on the line was too strong for it (high SNR), because I was so close to the exchange, and the Texas instruments chipset it contained had a known fault where it could not cope with high SNR.

you guys may have the netgear router which is supposed to have some issues with some of the BT's new broadband equipment at the exchange

yeah I'm only 200m away from my exchange!
any idea how to tell if it is one of the ones that are effected?

weird - was having major connection drops on thursday/friday last week with my ADSL24 and netgeat D834G router but all seems fine now.

Did they recommend an alternative?

upgraded to latest firmware and it seems ok now but its been a bit slow since the upgrade (like 35k/s downloads)

who else is having problems with ADSL24?

I'll try the latest firmware when I get back later this afternoon. It's not going to be proximity to the exchange (and high SNR) as I'm miles away and currently on a 1250 BRAS profile :(

Well the latest firmware hasn't sorted it, and I've had real trouble getting the old SMC to connect too tonight. Will fire off an email to ADSL24 tomorrow, and see what they say.

Bizarrely enough, I plugged the Netgear in last night (after ADSL24 asked me to check some settings) and it connected first time! This was having changed nothing since Sunday evening (when I last tried it).

Very wierd.

It's currently sat working with no problems (famous last words). So clearly it was something with the line or at the exchange - fingers crossed it's sorted itself out.
