hey
Can someone recommend a good free program to block adult material etc. on the internet so I can put on young sons PC. Preferably free :)

Don't most browsers come with a content filter anyone?

Should I enquire as to how old this "young son" is? (probably going to start a war but oh well)

Ah this old chestnut.

I've always had unrestricted access to the internet and it's done me no harm.

How old is your 'young son'?

Windows Vista and 7 come with quite good content blockers and log web usage too, but it starts becoming a pain for homework when a lot of un-rated sites are blocked. You can go for subscribed software that uses whitelist/blacklist methods, but there is a continual expense. Definitely don't run an administrator account as the main issue is not naughty content but nasty viruses from drive-thru websites, that are geared towards young inquisitive minds.

Any kid will eventually bypass any blocking you put in place, they are very determined when it comes to breasts.

opendns is a good shout

cheers fior replies. He's 11...and getting his 1st PC in his bedroom.
Ill go with K9 and see how it works :D

My router allows me to block them through that, but I guess you want access eh? ;)

Was just about to mention that. Most routers come with content blocking and some also have the option to allow a PC unlimited access, while blocking others ;). Probably combine that with software (also adblock too) or openDNS and it should keep him safe.
