Lo all,

I was playing on my brothers DS the other day (hes 9) and other than a star wars game all his games are very childish. I looked through a games catalogue that id been sent from somewhere and noticed that the majority of games in there are aimed for 4-12 years olds.

I was wondering whether any of you could recommend some really good games that are aimed at a more grown up audience?

Thanks

What exactly is the difference between a game aimed at grown ups and one aimed at kids? Cutesy graphics and game premises often put people off really great games (particularly with nintendo)

On the DS i've really enjoyed wario ware, tiger woods golf, mariokart, animal crossing, nintendogs. I'm currently Playing resident evil which is good, but a big step down from REmake (GC) which is the only other one i have played.

Battles of Prince of Persia.

Card Style turn based strategy game, very addictive once you get into it, but quite hard to get into in the first place! Set between Sands of Time and Warrior Within, so if you have played both of these (or at least Sands of Time) it helps

Castlevania is awesome, my daughter found it too scary, so id say its definetly not kiddie (although she is an uber wimp)

I'd only really say a game is "kiddy" if it's a shameless licensed craptastic platform game or something like that.

WarioWare has cute cartoon graphics, so does Mario, so does Animal Crossing. I'm nearly an adult and I enjoy all those games immensley.

If by adult games you mean strip poker, best look elsewhere...

Advance Wars DS is the only game i've played on my DS, and i've been playing it for months. Awesome game. It's pretty much all I bought the thing for though.

Hoping some other cool strategy games come out too.

Alas if games dont have swearing and/or violence some people aren't interested.

Has anyone mentioned that that any games need those 2 things in? no!

Nintendogs to me is a bit sims like and childish, and i dont want strip poker either :D

I just wanted something that would challenge an adult brain over a childs.

Some good suggestions here so ill check them out, thanks!

EDIT: Someone told me of some game thats similar to the beginning of Spore, the whole cell based system. Anyone know what hes on about?

Electroplankton (not sure thats spelled correctly)

I think all video games are essentially for kids. :p

You can dress them up with fancy Hollywood movie-esque presentation or explicit content, yet virtually all of them conform to same set of fundamental principles. That's the way I see it anyway.

When will there be games which involve strictly adult themes? Paying your taxes and Sunday morning shopping at B&Q simulator anyone?

train simulator DS!!

but seriously i know what thiss guy means about kids games, i only have 2 games for my DS atm, the rest are GBA games...

such as Golden Sun, which i wouldnt class as a kids game - but no DS equivalent..

Warioware touched ( if you want challenging )
Metroid Prime Hunters
Resident Evil
Advance Wars
Mario Kart
Tetris DS

all quality and not really something a young child can play as they're not easy at all.

couple in the online play with Metroid , Mario Kart and Tetris DS then you have the challenge of playing other 'real' players.

Ds is for kids

O wow how amazing a troll post of the stupid level. Well done, im sure everyone is rushing out to buy adult game systems.

TBH I dont think that any game unless is very educational is aimed at the younger market. Mario bros is all full of colours and cute sounds but any real gamer has played it through and rates it as top notch. Seeing a game as 'childish' is just dum

I have uncles/aunts who have enjoyed a little game on my DS in the past, especially with:

Metroid Prime Hunters
Brain Age
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright <--apparantly Marilyn Manson plays this :p
Mario Kart DS

Absolutely hate people who slate the DS without even giving it a try. I'm 20 myself and wasn't under peer pressure or anything to plump for the PSP instead, and I'm now glad I didn't. Last I heard, the average Nintendo gamer is way over 18. I think it's only really the under 18s who complain about the kiddy graphics, which I believe may have something to do with the fact that most now have access to the likes of Car Boost III: San Francisco, Gangsta Wars IV and Killing Spree V :p

Damn straight.

'Car Boost III' made me chortle :)

I'd like to see a 'kid' handle some of these tracks on Ouendan!
