I play 5-aside twice a week, but I'd love to improve my game through coaching tips from people who know what they're doing.

Has anybody else done this?

What are you asking exactly? :D

You want tips to improve you as a footballer? You want to become a coach? You want to be coached to become a better footballer?

I want your first and third points. :D No interest in coaching myself, just in becoming a better player through coaching. it seems to be something offered in abundance to kids, but not to adults.

If it's the first of the above, practice. If the second, take coaching badges. If the third, join a club...

EDIT: Beaten to the punch by your above post :)

Join a decent club, they should have coaching for various levels.

Find a proper 11 a-side Saturday / Sunday League team to play for. Any of the people you play with at the moment play for anyone?

Given your location have a look here and see if there are any teams local to you - http://goo.gl/Ggsdg

Links to team websites that the FA have - http://goo.gl/7QSd7

Given your age (presuming it's right) there will be limitations in what you can improve both technically and tactically (old habits, current skill levels). Maybe go watch a team local team play to see if you think you'd be of that standard, or just ask if you could join a training session.
