Hey all,

Just completed my final year doing a degree in Games Computing and will be continuing on to-do the MSc that the university offers. I am currently in the planning stage for the project due September 2009, I know it's a bit early but I really want to create some portfolio worthy stuff. My 3rd year dissertation was not really game orientated in which I created an alcohol stock exchange with mobile phone stock purchasing for a local bar. I really want to raise the bar and create something employees will be looking for.

My current idea is a team based multiplayer XNA game large puzzle aspect. The game will also incorporate database technologies with persistent statistics for players such as XP, Weapons etc...My research will be into game cross-genres for exam COD4 implementing the XP system and Puzzle Quest with its unique battle system.

I'm not 100% on this idea at the moment and was just wondering what sort of ideas and projects have you done in the past for similar situations or if you have any cool ideas to add to the table :D

P.S. PSP Dev kits maybe also available

Cheers

lol im looking for something a bit more advance than that, recent CUDA processes seem pretty interesting ;o

come'on someone must have a cool idea or been in a similer situation :D

Problem is, and don't take this personally, the games industry is full of rip-offs from other ideas. Games these days are just trying to better something similar only offering things like more realistic graphics or physics, trying to cram in 88,000 sentances of dialog or worlds so big they are about 1000 square miles of real scale.

I'd have a hell of a lot more respect for someone who comes up with an original game 'design' and I'm sure if you're serious about the industry, it will reward and respect you a hell of a lot more.

If you've got an original idea, then go with it and see where it takes you. You can't discover new worlds if you're afraid to lose sight of the shore. Get that idea you have, implement it and see where it takes you.

what about 3D pong crossed between block breaker or whatever you call it, so 6 of you are trying to bust up the blocks in the middle, but also catch out the other players. It's probably not as advanced as you're after, but I'd play that. Especially on the PSP with WiFi.

Q F T, just look at the digipen students who came up with portal for their final year project - they're working with valve now.

you both raise very valid points suppose those kind of games have been done thousands of times and wont really stick out, mayb some sort of casual/serious game...time to put pen to paper :D

TBH, if you know how to code, let your imagination run wild. chuck out a hundred ideas in 2-3 hours. then start filtering.
