Why when I try and change the boot.ini advanced settings to manually say how much memory to boot up with, does it just forgets what I say and puts 3Gb instead of 4Gb (as measured by task manager, 3dmark06, etc)? It still says 4gb in the system properties window however.

Im asking this question as im getting the dreaded atikmdag.sys error and manually imputing the amount of memory is thought to be one of the fixes.

Tried the memory remapping setting in the BIOS (both enabled and disabled)but it doesnt alter things. Im running Vista 64bit.

No idea, but i have set 2 Cores over default 1 in the same Tab as the Memory and it does remember and PC is always on a Selective Boot after that.

If I disable the memory remapping in BIOS i get 3Gb in windows and if I enable it I get 4gb. However if its enabled and I then specify in the boot.ini the maximum memory as 4gb and reboot I get 3gb....

This person had exactly the same problem....

Ideas??????

Is the available physical memory (2.94Gb out of 4Gb) shown in my system information report normal?

Thats what mine says as well so thats two of us,maybe thats normal, actually mine says 2.70 total pyhsical memeory available and i have 4 gig on a 64bit system with a gtx280.

This is totally normal, the total memory as 4GB is correct as thats what you have installed and the available memory is what isnt being used my windows and applications, remember vista does cache a lot of your memory so dont worry its all working as intended
